It looks like the already massive superhero team-up of the Avengers is going to have
one two more high profile superhero joining them (sort of)…Batman and Spider-Man!
A fansite for director Christopher Nolan, NolanFans, revealed through a screen grab from a Warner Brother exhibitor site that the third and final trailer for the highly-anticipated DC Comics film The Dark Knight Rises will debut in front of Marvel/Disney’s The Avengers. The trailer will debut in from of all 2D and 3D screens, both conventional and IMAX screens on May 4th. As with most Nolan films, the trailer will make its online appearanced the following Monday, though with the The Avengers set to break records with an over $150 million opening weekend, it could be said that most people will be rewatching it online rather than watching it for the first time.
It may seem strange at first that Marvel would let their largest DC Comics competitor to debut a trailer before one of their sure-fire hits, but Nolan has done well before. A trailer for The Dark Knight debuted with the first Marvel Studios film, Iron Man in 2008, and Nolan’s Inception saw its trailer debut with Iron Man 2 in 2010.
In its opening weekend, The Dark Knight broke records with its $158 million debut, so Marvel’s The Avengers will be a formidable foe in the race for box office domination. Catch The Avengers with Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johannsen, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson, and Tom Hiddleston as the villain, Loki, on May 4th in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D; and the finale to the Batman saga, The Dark Knight Rises, with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as the villain, Bane, July 20th in IMAX and conventional theaters.
Not to be outdone, Sony’s leaping into the mix as well! The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb revealed exclusively on G4’s Attack of the Show that a new trailer is also premiering ahead of The Avengers. Unlike Rises, the new Spider-Man trailer will debut first online on Thursday, May 3rd before it’s next premiere. The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Rhys Ifans as the villainous Lizard, Martin Sheen and Sally Field, and swings its way into theaters July 3rd, 2012 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
So let’s review: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury, plus Batman and Spider-Man? Superhero movie fans, rejoice!
