July 3rd may seem far away still for fans of your favorite webhead, but for Sony, they are moving full steam ahead on the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man by hiring a creative collaborative duo with a resume that screams “sure-fire blockbuster hit”.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the writing duo behind the Transformers franchise, as well as Star Trek (and its sequel, currently filming), and Mission: Impossible 3, are gearing up to write the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, kicking off the Summer 2014 season on May 2nd of that year (this was announced last August – before filming on the Marc Webb reboot had completed). They will also receive executive production credits.
Kurtzman and Orci – who also produce Fox’s “Fringe” and CBS’ “Hawaii Five-O” – are taking over the writing duties of James Vanderbilt, who wrote the script for the July reboot and who turned in a first draft of the sequel, so Kurtzman and Orci will already have material to work with and make their own. They are also working on producing several upcoming projects such as the Ender’s Game adaptation and the magician heist thriller Now You See Me.
Production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 begins in early 2013. While casting is still unknown, Andrew Garfield is at least expected to return as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
