And yet another – albeit brief, thanks to Memorial Day – week comes to a close. But before you run off for the weekend, it’s time for the Trailer Roundup, highlighting the best trailers of the week!
The global smash musical hit, Les Miserables, has been seen by over 60 million people in 42 countries for 27 years. Now, the Academy Award-winning director of The King’s Speech is bringing the musical epic to the big screen December 14th. Set in 19th Century France, the musical, based on Victor Hugo’s novel of the French Revolution, follows ex-prisoner Jean Valjean who agrees to look over Cosette, the factory worker Fantine’s young daughter, as the ruthless policeman Javert hunts for him. The Universal Pictures film stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway – who replaced Taylor Swift in the role and performs “I Dreamed A Dream” in the trailer, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Jeremy Renner continues to dominate the Hollywood landscape since his breakout role in The Hurt Locker. Taking on franchises like Mission: Impossible and The Avengers, Renner now takes on a new franchise in a side story film of the Bourne series called The Bourne Legacy. Tony Gilroy’s film, coming August 3rd, follows an agent who faces life-or-death stakes as a direct result of the manhunt for Jason Bourne in the first three films. Renner joins Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Stacey Keatch, Scott Glenn, and Oscar Issac in the Universal Pictures film.
Who could have expected a movie about bikes to be high-octane? The new trailer for David Koepp’s Premium Rush looks to change that perspective. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Wilee, a New York City bike messenger who skirts danger daily riding through the chaotic streets full of aggressive drivers and split second decisions. But on this day – a simple premium rush from Columbia University – Wilee faces unexpected danger from a crooked cop who will do anything to intercept and claim the package, even if it means killing him. Michael Shannon – who will next star as the evil General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel – Dania Ramirez and Jamie Chung also star in the Columbia Pictures action film coming August 24th.
