Trailer Round-Up, Week of June 17th – June 22nd, 2012

After a week off – and a lack of really good trailers – we’re back with an incredible week full of trailers that will excite you!

The week started off with not one or two, but four teaser trailers for Disney/Pixar’s prequel, Monsters University. In Monsters, Inc., audiences were introduced to Mike and Sully, two best friends who worked in a monster-filled world, and discovered that a child’s laughter – and not fear – can power their world. The prequel tells the story of how they met and became the best at their jobs. Of course, like many great friendships, it all started with a bitter rivalry. Billy Crystal, John Goodman, and Steve Buscemi reprise their voice roles for the film, enrolling to 2D and 3D theaters June 21st, 2013. You can watch one trailer below, courtesy of Disney/Pixar and head to their YouTube channel to see the other four trailers!

Luc Besson’s 2010 action film, Taken, became a surprise hit and made Liam Neeson an action star. Now frequent collaborator Olivier Megaton is continuing the high-octane story in Taken 2. Neeson stars once again as Bryan Mills, the former CIA agent with “a particular set of skills” who rescued his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers attempting to sell his daughter into sex trafficking.  But when the father of one of Kim’s kidnappers seeks revenge, he takes Bryan and his wife hostage, forcing the once-kidnapped daughter to rescue her father and to team up and take down the kidnappers one by one. Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen return to the 20th Century Fox film, which hits theaters October 5th, 2012.

Not many people try to remember the silly Sylvester Stallone-Rob Schneider thriller Judge Dredd, mostly because it was a silly and poor adaptation, and in the British 2000AD comics it was based on, Dredd never takes off his mask.  It is why Dredd, the new adaptation by director Pete Travers looks to right all the wrongs of that film.

In the future, America has been destroyed by nuclear war. It’s place is Mega City-One, a sprawling violent metropolis stretching from Boston to Washington, DC filled with gangs and criminals who rule the streets. The only order that exists are the “Judges”, who serve as judge, jury, and instant execution. Dredd is the most feared and well-known of the judges in Mega City-One. But on an routine day with his new trainee, the pyschic Cassandra Anderson to investigate a 200-story vertical slum, they face their most lethal oppenent yet – a prostitute turned drug lord named Ma-Ma, whose ruthless gang controls Slo-Mo, a drug that slows down time. It’s up to Dredd and Anderson to stop Ma-Ma’s war on the Judges and scale the 200-story tower to bring down her empire once and for all. Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey star in the LionsGate film coming September 21st to 2D and 3D theaters.
