It’s hot outside, but there’s one place that’s always cool and comfortable during the summer, and it’s the movie theater! And while the fourth of July is upon us and the fireworks are on display, it’s time for another week of movie trailers rounded up right here.
The character of Dr. Alex Cross, the brilliant but haunted homicide detective and pyschologist who is the center of the world-wide best-selling thriller novels by James Patterson, has appeared on screen before, played by Morgan Freeman in “Along Came a Spider” and “Kiss The Girls”. Now the character returns in the self-titled film with a new actor: Tyler Perry.
In Summit Entertainment’s “Alex Cross”, Perry stars as the detective facing off against a brilliant sadistic serial killer, played by Matthew Fox. But when the high stakes game of cat and mouse becomes personal for Cross, he is forced to question his own moral and pyschological ethics. The film, based on the novel “Cross”, is directed by Rob Cohen and also stars Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns, and Jean Reno, and arives October 19th.
In Rian Johnson’s “Looper”, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Joe, a hitman who kills targets that are sent thirty years in time to his era, in order to close the time loop. The money and life he leads is easy and worry-free, until the mob sends back a target (Bruce Willis) that changes his life…himself. The TriStar Pictures film also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels, and arrives September 28th.
When Quentin Tarantino is involved in any film project, you should expect it to be a wild, crazy, and thrilling epic journey. Here, he produces “The Man With the Iron Fists” a film from first-time writer/director and former Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA inspired by classic kung-fu epics.
When the mysterious blacksmith of a Chinese village (RZA) is forced to take sides by radical warring factions, it’s up to him to create the best armor and weaponry to battle against soulless villains. Russell Crowe, Rick Yune, David Bautista, Jamie Chung, and Lucy Liu also star in the Universal Pictures film coming sometime this year.
Colin Farrell steps into the shoes once filled by Arnold Schwartzenegger in the remake of Paul Verhoven’s 1990 sci-fi hit “Total Recall”. Inspired by Philip K. Dick’s famous short story, “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale”, the Len Wiseman film follows a factory worker in the future, Douglas Quaid (Farrell), who – while married to a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) is unfulfilled with his life and ventures to ReKall, a company that turns fantasies into realities as vacations. When Quaid wishes to be a super spy in order to spice up his life, however, the procedure goes horribly wrong, and becomes a wanted man chased by police controlled by Chancellor Cohaagan, the leader of the world (Bryan Cranston). But as he teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) in search of the underground resistance leader (Bill Nighy) that could bring down Cohaagan’s empire, one question remains: is this reality, or Quaid’s ReKall fantasy? The Sony film arrives August 3rd.
