It was a HOT HOT HOT fourth of July week, but the weekend is upon us. And even thought it was an abbreviated week, it wasn’t when it comes to new trailers.
While the world was rocked by the celebrity news story involving Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s sudden divorce, promotion began on Cruise’s next action film, “Jack Reacher”, based on the character in Lee Child’s action thrillers. Hopefully this new franchise is not tarnished by the poor timing of his personal life becoming tabloid news, because like his “Mission: Impossible” series, it looks impressive.
A heartland town is thrown into terror when six shots ring out, and five people are dead. But within hours, a decoratedf military sniper is captured, and the case is considered a slam-dunk. That is, until he requests former military investigator Jack Reacher. And when Reacher arrives and proves that the sniper could never miss a shot, it throws the case into a tailspin, and Reacher is drawn into a vast conspiracy. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the Paramount film, based primariliy on the Reacher novel “One Shot”, also stars Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, Robert Duvall, Jai Courtney, and Werner Herzog and hits theaters December 21st, 2012.
Dreamworks Animations newest 3D film, “Rise of the Guardians”, is a magical epic adventure that follows Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Jack Frost – legendary immortal characters of childhood with previously unknown super abilities – who unite to battle an evil spirit known only as the Pitch trying to take over the world and fill children’s imaginations with fear. The animated film features the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, and Jude Law, and arrives November 21st, 2012.
“Lawless” is based on the true story of infamous Bondurant brothers, whose bootlegging made them infamous in Prohibition-era Virginia. But as they catch the eyes of law enforcement and rival gangsters, the loyalty of the brothers is put to the test, when loyalty and betrayal are daily life during the most notorious period of American crime. John Hillcoat’s film, inspired by author Matt Bondurant’s family in the novel “The Wettest County in the World”, stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, and Dane DeHann, and the Weinstein Company film arrives August 29th, 2012.
