Is Zack Snyder Doing A Star Wars Spin-Off?

As movie fans await to see what Zack Snyder will have in store on June 14th, when his Superman reboot, “Man of Steel” finally hits theaters, Variety has rumors about what could be his next project, and it could be a big project.

When Disney acquired LucasArts late last year, Disney promised to release a new Star Wars film set in the Star Wars universe every two or three years, and that some of these films will be parallel to the main storyline. While the hunt goes on for a director to “Star Wars: Episode VII”, Snyder is reportedly in talks to direct the first spin-off of the series, a tale based on Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai”, which inspired the classic Western “The Magnificent Seven”. What remains unclear as well as when this film could arrive and how this will fit into the universe.

Interestingly, Snyder was one of the many directors who ruled himself out as a director for Episode VII, which is already one of the most anticipated films of 2015. In an interview with the LA Times. “I’m a huge ‘Star Wars’ fanatic. I just think doing {Episodes] seven, eight and nine is just a slippery slope. It’s a whole other mythological experiment I’m excited to see, but it’s a lot of effort.”

Snyder, who also directed “Watchmen” and “300”, could probably film this new Star Wars before signing on to direct a “Man of Steel” sequel, should it be a hit and Warner Brothers offers him the director’s chair once again (and if he even wants it). The Star Wars spin-off might arrive sometime after 2015, should this rumor be true, but for now, we have his “Man of Steel” to wait for. I’m sure Disney is also watching to see if can successfully reboot a classic film series. “Man of Steel” arrives June 14th. What do you think about this possibility?
